Programme:
19:00 Doors open, welcome speech and introduction
Short talks, by Victor Nubla and one or two other speakers still to be fixed

Introduction to the game "42" - this game was invented by Victor Nubla and Ignacio Lois, members of the “Benèvola Federació” (Benevolent Federation) on the 25th May 2011 and it is based on the novel The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams. There’s no need of boards or pieces or any external item.
The basic rules are:
Each game consists of several rounds and should be played by at least two players if and then they are different persons.
The first player tells any cultural reference containing any positive integer (eg. the French Revolution of 1789)
The following player, located at the right hand side of the first, makes a basic arithmetic operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division) on that number by using an integer extracted from another cultural reference (eg: The start of Spanish Civill war in 1936 - the french revolution of 1789 = 147).
one player wins the round if the result of his/her operation is 42.
Delivery of the prize to the winner, consisting of the Trilogy and records produced by Gràcia Territori Sonor

Everyone is welcome and visitors are of course encouraged to wear a towel. They start at 17.00 at ABF Örebro, Fredsgatan 18.
The evening contains high points such as dinner, a Hitchhiker's quiz, an art exhibition and information about our nerd-themed study groups and lectures.

Team members will be on hand to collect towels that will be donated to the People’s City Mission. Any condition of towel will be accepted. The team will receive donations until 3 pm.

"It looks like Douglas Adams was right when he wrote that towels are ‘the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have,’" said Doug Durham, CTO and co-founder of Don’t Panic Labs. In Washington DC's National Harbor, the three day con Escape Velocity 2018 starts on Towel Day!
The con looks brilliant and fun to us, it seems to be both about science AND science fiction. And there seems to be soms kind of Towel Day competition:
What: 196 Cosmic Encounter Aliens Celebrate Towel Day at Escape Velocity 2018
Where: USA Washington DC’s National Harbor – Marriott Gaylord, 201 Waterfront Street,
National Harbor, MD 20745 at The Museum of Science Fiction’s Escape Velocity 2018 Con,
Exhibit Hall Cosmic Encounter Location A2. https://escapevelocity.events/
When: Friday May 25, 2018 - May 27, 2018
Details: The Cosmic Encounter aliens who emerged on Earth bit before, but roughly within the same time span, as the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, took notice the other day that THE BIG COSMIC ENCOUNTER SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT was taking place on May 25, 2018 at escape Velocity.
It was brought up by the HUMAN alien, power of Humanity (Mostly Harmless) that May 25 was Towel Day! And so it came to be that the Human proclaimed it would be mostly harmless if all the aliens observed Towel Day.Yeah, right.
The 196 aliens (as a matter of course) got into a brouhaha about the true value of THE TOWEL and after a few nasty clashes, including using towels in ways that were heretofore undiscovered on one another, a deal was brokered and the whole unsettling matter was referrer to the oft maligned NOW WHAT sub committee run by the JUDGE alien, power of fiat.
His and Her Honorable Judges proclaimed that any and all Cosmic Encounter aliens would participate in Towel Day under the caveat that an Alien - Towel connection must be:
Concocted by an Earth Human
Posted to social media with the tag #cosmicalientowelday
Emailed to info@cosmicencounter.com
Winner: The aliens will decide on the winning post with the winner to receive whatever is revealed in the May 25 SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT
Rules:
Be Human
Chose any of 196 Cosmic Aliens
Submit as many as you want for any number of aliens
Write, or draw, or video, or read or submit any combination for your alien / towel connection
Post anytime before May 28, 2018
Hints:
Read the alien history
Play off the graphic
Think outside the solar system
Ask: How would the "alien" celebrate Towel Day?
Check http://www.towelday.org/index.html
Don’t Panic
As in previous years, Barrister and Mann have brought back their 42 Collection: a limited edition towel, an eau de toilette called "42" only produced until the end of May 2018, etc. Unfortunately they don't ship outside of the US. Some other sites (like Amazon) have some of these products, but we haven't found the towel anywhere else.
